Ranbaxy Laboratories , India's top drug maker by sales, said it has recalled its cholesterol lowering drug atorvastatin from the United States. The recall will temporarily disrupt supplies of the generic Lipitor to the US, The recall is being conducted at the retail level for such select batches that may contain a foreign substance (small glass particles approximately less than 1mm in size). Ranbaxy had launched Atorvastatin in the US in December last year. It was among the first generic drug makers to get approval from US Food and Drug Administration to launch it.
