Mangalore: Be Entrepreneurs and Provide Jobs to People- Fr Francis Almeida

Mangalore: Human Rights Cell, St Aloysius College and Issues and Concerns (R) Surathkal jointly organized a Inter-collegiate Elocution competition for graduate students on "The Role of Common man in creating a Political Alternative to India", at Eric Mathias Hall here on September 13.
The programme began with an invocation. Associate Professor Dr Rose Vera D'Souza welcomed the gathering. The competition was inaugurated by the former Chairman and Managing director of Syndicate Bank Dr N K Thingalaya by lighting the traditional lamp along with other dignitaries on the dais.

Editor, Issues and Concerns J Shriyan delivered the keynote address. In his inaugural speech, recalling his student life, Dr Thingalaya said that, 60 years ago, when he was in 10th standard, he had an opportunity to deliver a speech at Nehru Maidan on August 15 and shared his excitement while delivering the speech.
He further said that the future can be seen on the faces of the students. If a person becomes corrupt we need to blame the teachers because teachers should teach the students good values in life. If a student understands the values of education he / she will not become corrupt. Every individual has his own duty in the society. We need to improve our social responsibilities by educating people by creating awareness.
Senior Advocate Ranjan Rao speaking on the occasion said that Winston Churchill hated Indians and had said not to grant independence to India because if India is freed the power will go in the hands of the corrupt people. But Churchill's prophecy went wrong. Many stalwarts built India from scratch after the British rule.
He further said that now a days if we see the political parties, they do not follow the principals of Mahatma Gandhi. Once the power comes into their hands the real master will enjoy the power. While concluding, Rao said that the innocent girl who had been gang raped and murdered in Delhi, people protested against this rape and pressurised the government  to give death penalty to the accused. We need to fight against such cases until we get justice.
Vice Principal- Fr Francis Almeida in his presidential address said that the government has passed the food security bill and is planning to bring 63% of the people under this bill, which is to gain votes in the forth coming elections. By providing food to the 63% people of the country will not serve the purpose if there is no education. Government should give education to the students and create jobs. If there is no job there will be no food.
Fr Almeida further said, "Be the entrepreneurs and provide jobs to the common man. The common man should be empowered and not exploited. It is our duty to educated everyone".

Co-ordinator Alwin D'Souza delivered the vote of thanks. Mallika compered the programme(http://www.mangalorean.com/)
