Gold set for biggest loss in 5 months on US stimulus woes

GOLD WAS HEADED FOR ITS BIGGEST MONTHLY DROP SINCE JUNE AS A RECOVERING US ECONOMY PROMPTED INVESTORS TO SHIFT MONEY TO RALLYING EQUITIES, AMID EXPECTATIONS OF AN END TO EASY CENTRAL BANK MONEY. GOLD HAS SHED 6 PERCENT FOR THE MONTH AND HAS LOST MORE THAN A QUARTER OF ITS VALUE SO FAR THIS YEAR,

WHICH PUTS IT ON TRACK TO POST ITS FIRST ANNUAL LOSS IN 13 YEARS.IT HAS STAYED BELOW US 1,300 FOR THREE WEEKS NOW AND HAS BEEN LARGELY RANGEBOUND IN THE LAST FEW SESSIONS DUE TO THIN TRADING AROUND THE US THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY. "IT'S THAT TIME OF THE YEAR WHEN PEOPLE ARE REALLY RELUCTANT TO LEAVE THE SIDELINES. AND THERE HAS BEEN NO CATALYST TO PUSH PRICES EITHER WAY," SAID A HONG KONG-BASED PRECIOUS METALS TRADER. "FROM A POSITIONING STANDPOINT, PEOPLE HAVE ALREADY EXHAUSTED ON THE DOWNSIDE. WE COULD POSSIBLY END HIGHER FOR THE YEAR FROM CURRENT LEVELS." SPOT GOLD WAS UNCHANGED AT USD 1,244.50 AN OUNCE BY 0751 GMT. SILVER, PLATINUM AND PALLADIUM WERE ALL TRADING HIGHER. THE NEXT BIG PUSH FOR PRICES COULD BE IN EARLY DECEMBER WHEN US NONFARM PAYROLL DATA IS EXPECTED.
ECONOMIC DATA HAS BECOME A SIGNIFICANT DRIVER OF GOLD PRICES AS THE OUTLOOK FOR US MONETARY STIMULUS DEPENDS ON THE STRENGTH OF THE RECOVERY. THE USD 85 BILLION IN MONTHLY BOND PURCHASES BY THE U.S. FEDERAL RESERVE HAVE BURNISHED GOLD'S APPEAL AS AN INFLATION HEDGE. PHYSICAL SUPPORT BUYING FROM CHINA, SET TO BECOME THE WORLD'S BIGGEST CONSUMER OF GOLD THIS YEAR, PICKED UP THIS WEEK AS PRICES CONTINUED TO BE UNDER PRESSURE. ON THURSDAY, TRADED VOLUMES OF 99.99 PERCENT PURITY GOLD ON THE SHANGHAI GOLD EXCHANGE HIT THEIR HIGHEST IN SEVEN WEEKS. VOLUMES FOR THE WEEK AT THE FRIDAY CLOSE WERE THE HIGHEST SINCE THE LAST WEEK OF SEPTEMBER

Perla Devaloka couple murder case: Black magician gets life

Kasargod, Nov 21, 2013: The second Additional District and Sessions Court has  sentenced Imam Hussain, a black magician from Sagar, to life imprisonment in the  1993 Perla Devaloka couple murder case. The quantum of punishment was pronounced by the court on November 21, Thursday.

Perla Devaloka couple murder case: Black magician gets liferThe Court had earlier on November 18, Tuesday   convicted Hussain of murdering  Srikrishna Bhat and his wife   Srimathi. The court while announcing the quantum of punishment has also directed the convict to pay a penalty of Rs 1.5 lakh to the  three sons of the couple.

Though the convict pleaded for mercy stating that he had six children, five of them girls staying in a rented house, the court turned down the same.

The court pronounced the judgement  one and a half years after the trials in the case commenced after  Imam was arrested in Bangalore on April 20, 2012, almost  19 years after the crime.

It was on October 9, 1993 that Imam  killed Srikrishna Bhat and his wife after promising to unearth a hidden treasure in their land. Imam was then practicing at a lodge in Mangalore. The couple’s children  Muralikrishna(13), Niranjan(11) and Sudarshan(6) who were sleeping in another room that night came to know that their parents were killed only the next morning. If their mother was found dead in the room, father was later  found in a ditch in their plantation. Items used for black magic were found  at the spot. A hen brought for sacrifice was also at the spot. The police had taken possession of it, but it died after a few years. It was a visiting card  found in the couple’s house that helped the police identify the culprit.

The Badiadka police were initially investigating the case which was handed over to the Crime Branch in 2008.
